10 Things That Make a Pastor Remarkable

April 30, 2011

I saw this title and cautiously clicked the link, expecting to be discouraged by a list of things that I’m not doing well in. I was pleasantly surprised and encouraged.

The thing that makes pastors remarkable is not what they do for God. It’s what God has done for them.

Marvel at the work of God that makes your life and ministry remarkable:

1. He saved you from your sin and his wrath by making you alive in Jesus (Eph. 2:1-5).

2. He gave you his Holy Spirit so that you will bear his fruit (Gal. 5:22-24), and thus be qualified for your role (1 Tim. 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-9).

3. He called you to be his fellow worker, and gives growth to those you water with the gospel (1 Cor. 3:6, 9).

4. He strengthens you for your toil in ministry (Col. 1:29).

5. He enflames you with the Holy Spirit so that you can stop being so timid (2 Tim. 1:7).

6. He appointed you as teacher and preacher in order to equip the saints (Eph. 4:11-12).

7. He promised faithful under-shepherds a crown of unfading glory when the Chief Shepherd appears (1 Pet. 5:4).

8. He gave you an unquenchable passion to proclaim his name (Jer. 20:9).

9. He comforts you in every affliction ministry has brought you (2 Cor. 1:3-11).

10. He provides you with all your material needs (Phil. 4:12-13).

Stop worrying about what you have to offer your congregation. Tell them what God has to offer them. Then you’ll be a remarkable pastor.

But they’ll be remarking about God, not you, of course.

A good reminder for us all. Here is the link: Pastoralized

I found your blog through and thought it was funny that you and I had the same thought about discovering a list of things that we will never be able to match up to. I’m glad that it turned out to be a list of things that God has done for us. Might make a great sermon someday.
