Rose of Helene

July 30, 2010

There is a bush that goes by the name of Helene Rose of Sharon, or “Rose of Helene”. For some reason, I love that name!

Botanical Name: Hibiscus syriacus ‘Helene’

Foliage Type: Palmately veined, 3 lobed, coarsely toothed along the margins. Dark green, heavily textured.

Flower Form: Large, single open bells.

Flower Color: 3″ – 4″ flowers are pure, glistening white with deep burgundy central flares.

Here is our Rose of Helene that has taken root in our new home and seems to be doing quite nicely.

Apparently, the people who lived here before us planted a Rose of Sharon bush. Here is a flower from that bush:

I am surrounded by beauty!
